Norfolk Academy 5K Course

Thursday, September 8 -- Jamestown looked strong in their final scrimmage leading up to their first big invitational coming up next weekend at Virginia Tech. At Norfolk Academy, with 3 other area private schools, Jamestown managed to place 8 in the top 11. Junior Bryce Ruiz won the race easily in 15:36. In 2nd was Jordan Price from Denbigh Baptist in 16:40. An impressive teamwork showing effort by junior Tony Davilla and sophomore Brandon Miles both coming in at 16:50 with Davilla in 3rd and Miles in 4th. Both guys chose to run together for the last 800 and it paid off with both going under 17 for the first time this year. The 16:50 was a PR for Miles. Senior Jeff Magner placed 6th in a time of with one of his better times of 17:20. He should break 17 anytime now. Sophomore Ricky Rehkopf made sure he booked his ticket to Tech by PR'ing by about 45 seconds coming in 7th with a time of 17:46. Junior Wyatt Beyer comes every so close once again to breaking 18, coming in 8th with a time of 18:06, a new PR for him. Another up and rising sophomore for Jamestown, Joey Trinidad, came in the 9th and ran a personal best of 18:20 (old PR was 18:57). Senior Brian Phipps shows his old form coming in 11th with a time of 18:40. All of these times are great considering the hour long bus ride there and just the 15 minute warmup the team got and having to sprint to get to the start. The Norfolk Academy course was on the school grounds. It was all flat, but was very broken up and had lots of sharpe turns around football, baseball, soccer, fields and a 400 m start as well as finish on the track.
